A Thrall Harvest is a charity event in support of a local food bank/pantry. The event is a fantasy table-top miniatures tournament using the popular Warmachine and Hordes game systems.
As an entry fee, players bring donations of canned and staple goods to be donated to the local food bank/pantry. A unique tournament format is used to encourage donations during the event. Privateer Press, the creators of the Warmachine and Hordes game systems and miniature lines, provides unique award support for the event including special prizes for the tournament winner and the most generous donor.
Additionally, a prize will be award to the location that hosts the most successfully event in terms of goods donated.
The Thrall Harvest is national in scope with charity tournaments happening all across the country annually from November to January.
“Breaking the Rules”
At any point during a game, a player may donate a canned good to create an in-game
effect. These canned goods are in addition to any canned goods that were donated for the registration fee, so be certain to bring plenty of canned goods so you can break plenty of rules. The following are the in-game effects that are generated by extra donations:
You may donate a canned good to:
1. Re-roll 1 of your dice. Each subsequent time you break this rule, whether for it’s for
the same die or a different die, the cost to break this rule doubles. For example the 1st
re-roll=1 can, 2nd re-roll=2 cans, 3rd re-roll=4 cans, 4th re-roll=8 cans. The cost resets
back to 1 can at the start of your next turn. You cannot re-roll the “deploy first, go
first” roll.
2. Force your opponent to re-roll 1 of his/her dice. Each subsequent time you break this
rule, whether for it’s for the same die or a different die, the cost to break this rule
doubles. See Rule #1 for an example. The cost resets back to 1 can at the start of
your opponent’s next turn. You cannot force a re-roll your opponent’s “deploy first,
go first” roll.
3. Give your warcaster/warlock an extra focus/fury point. You may only break this rule
once per round. This may be in excess of their focus/fury stat, but does not change
the stat itself. Your warcaster/warlock receives this focus even if other effects do not
normally allow him focus/fury points, such as Severius’ feat or Eiryss’ disruptor bolt.
4. Remove 1 fury from one of your warbeasts. This fury does not go to your warlock, it
simply disappears. You may only break this rule once per round.
5. Measure the distance between any 2 models on the board at any time.
You may donate 3 cans to:
6. Generate 1 power attack that is not a charge without the usual penalties of “-2 for a
smaller/equal sized target, -4 for a larger target”. It does not cost a focus/fury to
perform the power attack. Each subsequent time you break this rule, the cost to break
this rule doubles. See Rule #1 for an example. The cost resets back to 3 cans at the
start of your next turn.
7. Have a warjack with 2 open fists perform a Rend power attack. See Hordes: Primal
for the ruling on “Rend”.
8. Move a single terrain piece 5” in any direction before the game starts. Do this before
seeing your opponents list. You may only break this rule once per game.
You may donate 10 cans to:
9. If you win the “who deploys first and goes first” roll, you may deploy second and go
first. You may break this rule once per tournament.
10. Force your opponent to make one of his advance deployment units non-advance
deploy. You may only break this rule once per game. Decide this after seeing your
opponent’s list but before you roll for the “who deploys first and goes first” roll.
Hope to see you all there!!!

ummm I really really really don't want to play MKI (cause it will hurt my brain to much).
I say MKII all the way. don't really care what point values (though if it's a tourny, and were still kinda new to MKII I'd suggest a more 35 or maybe even 40 or 45 pointer to keep things a bit more simple.
though 50 can work just fine too. (might be some folks first time with MKII if any of the Hordes only players show up). |

Point #6 will have to change since the penalties in MkII are different. |

I've posted to the PP Forums, Ross is planning to come and he will be trying to get some of southern players to come as well. We are talking about prize support and I will be talking to 3 other LA press Gangers on Saturday, I hope to get more interest from LA as well. FoodBank has been contacted, Rob at Pair A Dice is very excited and wants to extend the Food drive for the entire weekend he stated that he was going to give incentive for people to contribute. He'll give discounts or something. Rob jumped right on board and we are both very excited about helping our North County friends in need. |

Can you provide some concrete details so I can update the home page story and send out the newsletter. We need to pick a specific point level now so that people can prepare and how many cans is the entry fee? |

Bring a 35 and a 50 point list I think that is pretty good detail. The format lends to people donating Cans to buy rolls So with that in mind people will bring in as many cans or Dollars they want to donate Those Cans or Dollars will be converted to Tokens or Tickets (poker Chips or something) so people don't have to lug around all their cans So I suggest get your friends, family even coworkers invovled now, Gather up as much stuff for donations as you can, start NOW. if you bring in 50 cans you will get 50 tokens to use towards breaking the rules. Also there's nothing in the rules that states you can't call people from the Tournament to have them bring you more cans!! Let's have fun with it!! |

Poker chips sounds like the best idea to me, I have a decent set that we can use but hopefully that won't be enough chips to cover everyone so we may want to get more. |

I spoke to Rob about Poker chips he's got quite a few.
Guys just a reminder if you try to get folks from work, friends and family involved now you can get a Stock Pile of Cans for the event! just send them to this site if they have any questions. I played in a similar format Tourny last weekend OMG it was FUN!! all I have to say is make sure you remember it's not about winning it's about having fun and helping folks with our hobby! I am going to speak to Rob about donating some minis I am going to make some Custom Trophies, Anyone have something to donate (WM/H! model) for a Trophy? I have ordered Official PP prize support as well! |

If there's anything decent at PaD at half-off I might be able to buy something and try to prime & paint it before the event as a door prize. I will try to stop in after work tonight or tomorrow to see what I can scrounge up. It would be a lot easier if we used it as an award though so I could steal Ross' golden driller idea (i.e. spray paint the entire model a single color).
I remember seeing in NQ that somebody used a gold spray-painted can of food on a wood base as a trophy for the most cans donated, wonder if we should try something similar. (The can was actually emptied and had the lid bent at an angle.)
Too bad I didn't wait a little longer to send out the mass e-mail, I could have included info about special prizes. |

Hey Don't buy anything yet. I spoke to Rob and he will donate something for the Trophy, I am going to stop by after work today to figure out what. I may get a Driller and place it on top of a Can drilling into it like a Can opener. |

So I got the Driller last night, it's missing the driller arm! Sigh Oh well I will go by tonight to get the other one.
One of my coworkers has already donated some food! and Gold spray paint for the Trophy! How cool is that? |

Sadly our company had already posted something on the Portal on Monday urging people to donate for the Adopt-A-Family program so I'm out of luck here. |

Dude there is no harm in asking. The worst that can happen is they say no.
I was able to stop at Pair A Dice for lunch and get the replacement Driller. I will stop by Micheal's to see about a cool base for the Trophy then go home and start building! I am very excited! |

For those of you attending the food drive tournament there is a Canned Goods Outlet in the same parking lot as the Starbucks and Wendys near Pair a Dice Games on Hacienda Drive just a few blocks west of Pair a Dice.
So who is planning on attending the tournament? |

Unfortunately, I'm out. I'll be down south celebrating Christmas on Saturday.
Not that you'll probably need more Khadoran forces anyway. |

We had a bit of a light turn out for the tournament but those who did show were very generous with their donations of canned goods.
Thank you to Gaynelle, Rick, Matt S. and Gail.
Thank you James who also made an appearance and dropped off some food.
Thanks for organizing Paul and your donations as well.
We also had a visit from Ross the San Diego Press Ganger who gave a generous donation as well.
Thanks to all who attended. |

While disappointed in the amount of players we fielded, we got a TON of food, which was awesome.
WTG for making this happen and getting us all out and playing.
Thanks too, to Shawn and Michele who helped Paul out and donated their time so the event could be a success. |
